HPCompiler Installation

Before installing HPCompiler, make sure that JDK 21 or later and Python 3.10 or later are installed on your system.

You can verify the installed versions from a PowerShell terminal:

Windows System

1. Verify Java and Python

Open a PowerShell terminal and run:

java --version
python --version

You should see output similar to:

java 21.0.2 2024-01-16 LTS
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 21.0.2+13-LTS-58)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 21.0.2+13-LTS-58, mixed mode, sharing)

Python 3.13.1

If the python command is not available but Python was installed with the Windows Python Launcher, you can also try:

py --version

2. Download HPCompiler

Download HPCompiler-v5.11.1 and save the ZIP file in any directory, for example:

C:\Users\<user>\Downloads

3. Uncompress HPCompiler

You can extract the ZIP file using Windows File Explorer or PowerShell.

For example:

cd C:\Users\<user>\Downloads

Expand-Archive .\hpcompiler-v5.11.1.zip -DestinationPath .

4. Change to the HPCompiler directory

Run:

cd .\hpcompiler-v5.11.1

5. Check the distribution files

Run:

ls

You should see files and directories similar to:

    Directory: C:\Users\rhp7m\Downloads\hpcompiler-v5.11.1
Mode LastWriteTime Length Name
---- ------------- ------ ----

-a---- 25/05/2026 20:55 2633 install_hpcompiler_server.sh
-a---- 02/03/2026 19:17 16 requirements.txt

6. Install HPCompiler

Run:

powershell.exe -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -File .\install_hpcompiler.ps1

HPCompiler is installed in your user home directory:

C:\Users\<user>\hpcompiler

Each HPCompiler version has its own directory and its own private Python virtual environment:

C:\Users\<user>\hpcompiler\
└── versions\
    ├── hpcompiler-v5.11.1\
    │ ├── bin\
    │ ├── lib\
    │ └── venv\
    │
    └── current

The current directory references the active HPCompiler version.

The installer also adds the following directory to the user PATH:

C:\Users\<user>\hpcompiler\versions\current\bin

The installation does not modify the system PATH and does not require administrator privileges.

During installation, you should see messages similar to:

HPCompiler Installer

Current version set to hpcompiler-v5.11.1.
User PATH already contains HPCompiler.

Installation completed successfully.

Open a new terminal and run:
    hp --version
hpcompiler --version

HPCompiler installs its Python dependencies inside the private virtual environment associated with that HPCompiler version. It does not install these dependencies into the global Python environment.

7. Close the terminal

Close the PowerShell terminal used during installation.

You do not need to restart Windows.

8. Open a new PowerShell terminal

Create a working directory for your HPLang programs, for example:

mkdir hp_prgs
    Directory: C:\Users\rhp7m
Mode LastWriteTime Length Name
---- ------------- ------ ----
d----- 02/09/2026 12:08 prgs
cd hp_prgs

9. Verify the HPCompiler installation

Run:

hp --version
hp v1.20.0 (Ocober 2, 2026)
hpcompiler --version
HPCompiler 5.11.1 (October 21, 2026)

You can also verify the HPCompiler environment (in this case all are ok) with:

hp doctor
Running environment diagnostics ...

and check the installed HPCompiler versions with:

hp list

Installed versions:

hpcompiler-v5.8.1
hpcompiler-v5.9.0
hpcompiler-v5.10.0
hpcompiler-v5.11.0
* hpcompiler-v5.11.1 (current)

10. Run your first HPLang program

You can compile and run an HPLang program, for instance, MyProgram.hp with:

hp MyProgram.hp

You can also run:

hp

When no filename is specified, HPCompiler uses the default TestLang.hp program.

The first time a working directory is used, HPCompiler initializes the workspace and then compiles and runs the program.

You should see output similar to:

Configuring this working space (directory) for hpcompiler.

Compiling TestLang.hp for python ...
Running with Python ...
HP Language.
